Pet Identification

Pet identification is highly recommended these days because of the requirement of licensing of the dog. This helps reduce the number of stray animals running loose in the streets. It also protects people from wild dogs who can have diseases such as rabies. Pet identification can be done by many different methods. Each is unique in itself. The cost factor is what separates the different methods.

The identification of your pet may be done by personalized tags, city or county municipal license tags, rabies tag, and more. Most of the time, you place your name and telephone number on the personalized tags that are on your dog. If anyone finds your missing dog, they will know to call you to let you know where the dog is. This is a great method and helps you feel secure that if your dog gets loose, you will be able to find them before the dog catcher takes them to the animal pound.

Plastic and metal pet identification tags are available in multiple colors and the dog owners can choose the color they like best. However, many select the reflective type of dog tags along with the collars. Hence, the dogs can be identified easier in darkness to a greater extent.

Nowadays, many electronic gadgets are available like microchips which are embedded into the dog. However, these kinds of electronic chips need to be implanted behind the ears and once implanted; this will reveal all the data embedded in this in the computer chip. A dog collar and tagged animal tells people this is not a stray animal. This in itself gives you more security for your dog.

Traditional forms of identification of your dog can be enhanced by using tattooing also to help identify your dog. Thus tracing the missing animal will become easier for pet owners mainly due to the identification-based dog collars, microchips and tattoos.
